Aleko - Vitosha mountain
Vitosha mountain is a great mountain with its highest point Black peak (Cherni vrah) at 2290 meters above the sea level. It is adjacent to the Sofia city, the capital of Bulgaria.
Pros:
- Easily accessible - there is a gondola from the city to the skii / snowboarding area. You can also get by car to the top of the mountain.
- Cheap - prices for ski passes, accommodation and food are among the lowest.
- Good variety of slopes.
- Snowboarding facilities for freestyling.
- High north slopes which keep the snow till late Spring.
Cons:
- In busy days (weekend) it gets very crowded with long lines.
- Old and unreliable facilities which often fail - especially true for the Romanski lift which is over 40 years old (built 1968).
- Roads get icy and jams occur if you choose to go by car to the top.
- Hotels / huts are old and offer poor conditions.
